Remember how we questioned the willingness of member states to implement the unanimously adopted resolution against forced migrations? Well there is a strong possibility of a promising outcome regarding the fulfillment of their pledges. Below you will find an invitation to a special event...
The delegations of the United Kingdom and United States of America are organising a special event to prove their firmness and determination to implement the resolution. The organizers say that as co-sponsors they believe that the resolution was the first step in the right direction, but further action needs to be taken to ensure implementation. Therefore they will be hosting a fundraising event "Together for Syrian Refugees" on May 15th at 14.30 at FDV gardens. At the GA session on forced migrations there was also discussion about the crisis in Syria - unfortunately, no agreement regarding this topic has been reached, but it seems that some member states are determined to shed a light on this issue.
As the name of the event says itself, they will be collecting donations, which will be donated to UNHCR's Syrian crisis urgent appeal. To learn more about how our contributions will be donated and how they will help, visit: http://donate.unhcr.org/syria. "Every little bit counts and we are hoping that collectively we will make a generous donation that will both help Syrian refugees and facilitate the work of UNHCR," say H.E. ms. Učakar, representative of USA and H.E. ms. Petković, representative of UK.
They also promise some refreshments and baked goods in a relaxed atmosphere. We have already witnessed some spectacular events organised by our delegates (remember AfriNoon?) so we are looking forward to this one too. Join us for a chat and most importantly - for a great cause and a step toward bringing the resolution into effect. See you there!
