There are more and more coalitions forming on the UN GA stage. Yesterday we received a joint statement from the UNAOC - UN Alliance for civilizations. Before you ask - it is not made up, it actually exists. It was established in 2005 at the initiative of the Governments of Spain and Turkey. H.E. ms. Eminić, representative of Spain and H.E. ms. Jud, representative of Turkey, decided to form a joint position regarding forced migrations. Read more below.
They stated that they believe that it is crucial to shift popular perception of migration from threat to opportunity. "Alliance strives to achieve this through its migration program, which promotes the construction of more inclusive societies in which the contributions of migrants are valued and their integration is facilitated." They promote the construction of inclusive and cohesive societies which prove that diversity brings progress. "Building such societies should be common goal of us all and in trying to achieve it, our guiding principles should be: respect for and protection of human rights for migrants and their families; elimination of increasing acts of racism and xenophobia in many societies; and promotion of greater harmony and tolerance in all societies."
They have not mentioned or declared for any of the policies that were suggested by other member states (such as the policy of burden sharing, case by case approach etc.) so we can only wonder wheter Spain and Turkey will argue for a common position today regarding this issues or not.

JOINT STATEMENT
Recent years have seen a substantial increase in migration of diverse peoples across the globe, which has resulted in creation of rich and diverse societies. Diversity represents richness of opportunities as each community has its own view of the world. Unfortunately, migration is too often perceived as a threat to prosperity and identity, which leads to suspicion and hostility between groups.
Inadequate integration of migrant communities leads to alienation, resentment, and a tendency toward extremism. On the other hand, well-integrated migrant communities have a unique insight into cultural diversity and are very qualified to help improve inter-cultural understanding and cooperation across diverse populations.
This is why Alliance is working very actively in the area of migration, promoting efforts to harmonize the coexistence between newcomers and host communities worldwide. We believe that it is crucial to shift popular perception of migration from threat to opportunity. Alliance strives to achieve this through its migration program, which promotes the construction of more inclusive societies in which the contributions of migrants are valued and their integration is facilitated. Inclusive and cohesive societies prove that diversity brings progress.
Building such societies should be common goal of us all and in trying to achieve it, our guiding principles should be: respect for and protection of human rights for migrants and their families; elimination of increasing acts of racism and xenophobia in many societies; and promotion of greater harmony and tolerance in all societies.
This year, we have the chance to address this issue at UN General Assembly. Let us not forget about this principles and values when deciding about the future of millions of people. Let us forge strong, collective political action and improve cross-cultural understanding and cooperation among countries, peoples and communities. Let us strengthen the capacity of all countries to implement the principles and practices of democracy and respect for human rights. Let us do so while guided by principles of respect and tolerance among human beings in the diversity of their beliefs, cultures, and languages.
“Differences within and between societies be neither feared nor repressed, but cherished as a precious asset of humanity.” (UN Development Declaration, 1-6).
